Is Quartz or Granite a Better Countertop Surface?

This is more of a personal preference of style & design. The Quartz countertops lend to be more modern or contemporary. Granite is generally used in more traditional, rustic or transitional styles, if you will... The new kid on the block, however, is a natural stone called Quartzite which has a Marble look with the strength and durability of Granite and generally comes in a verity of lighter tones.

Is it okay to put natural stone on my backsplash behind the stove area?

Accepted Answer

Yes it is common to use the same slab material as the countertops behind the stove. Making it a beautiful statement piece, especially if you can incorporate a beautiful vein that you would like emphasized.

Can I use a ceramic tile on the floor, or is it just for walls?

Accepted Answer

Because it’s a softer product ceramic tile is only used on walls and backsplashes. Porcelain is a more suitable product for floor applications.

Accepted Answer

Yes, heated floor wires are rated be installed in wet shower applications.

What is the difference between a "field" tile and a "mosaic" tile?

Accepted Answer

Field tile is larger tiles 4x4” and up. The smaller size tiles 3x3” and smaller is considered a mosaic.

Can Marble be used as a kitchen countertop?

Accepted Answer

Yes marble is a beautiful material to use in the kitchen. But there is a catch... Marble is a soft stone that scratches and gets etched pretty easily by wine, jucie and other acidic things. You need to be aware and know what expect going in.

What's the difference between porcelain tile and ceramic tile?

Accepted Answer

Porcelain clays are denser and thus less porous than ceramic clays. ... Not only is porcelain tile more dense than ceramic tile, but due to its through-body composition, it is considered more durable and better suited for heavy usage than ceramic tile.  Ceramic tile is generally used on shower walls or kitchen back-splashes. Porcelain tile is good on floors and all other tile applications.

How often do I need to seal my countertops?

Accepted Answer

Depending on how porous the natural stone is, but a good rule of thumb is once every 1-2 years.

Can I set a hot frying pan or hot cookie sheet on my quartz or granite counters?

Accepted Answer

Yes on Granite. No on Quartz. Even though quartz is rated for such temperatures, at the end of the day quartz slabs are comprised of quartzite crystals and resin. Resin is not heat resistant, so it would be better to use a coaster on your beautiful new quartz countertops.

Is there a type of grout that is easier to clean and won't fade in color?

Accepted Answer

We use Acrylic based grout which is easier to clean and doesn’t penetrate dirt.

About how much time does it take to have quartz or stone counters and a backsplash installed in my home?

Accepted Answer

It generally takes about five days (Mon-Fri) to remove the existing countertops and backsplash and replace with new quartz or granite slab & tile backsplash. Even including reconnecting the new sink and stove!
